Wings part 16

Started today by making up all the ribs that have some special parts attached or match drilled.

The two wing root ribs get these nut plates.  Make sure they are on the correct side of the web. UPDATE: I made a mistake and installed two nut plates in each rib here.  The plans only call for one.  Don’t do what I did! Updated #2:  I put these nuplates on the rib that was untrimmed at the front!  I must have been drunk and rusty at building when I did this.  This root rib must have the front nose flanges trimmed!  Don't do what I did!

They also get these two doublers.  I think the nut plates are for the electrical grounds and the doubler is for the electrical connector.  UPDATE: I made a mistake and installed two nut plates in each rib here.  The plans only call for one.  Don’t do what I did!

Then this solitaire rib gets two nut plates on the tip for the AOA sensor.  UPDATE: Yes this one is supposed to get two!  Update #2:  Notice that I put these two nutplates on a rib that had the front flanges trimmed.  DUH!  This is a mistake.... Don't do what I did!

Matched drilled these rib extensions.  Pay attention which rib you match drill to, these extensions are different.

All done and riveted.  Plans tell you to put shop heads on a particular side of the web.

Next comes match drilling the hinge brackets and ribs to specific ribs.

I then did the other two.

Fuselage center section #81 - Forward upper fuselage part 3!

Prepping the upper firewall area.

Riveted this bracket onto the upper firewall.

Installed these nutplates.

Dimpled the lower flange per the KAI's.

More dimpling.

More nutplate riveting.

Next it gets riveted to the fuse with some sealant on the ledge.

After all the rivets, these final nuplates get installed.

The small hinges get match drilled.

Here is where I realized I made a mistake and riveted the spacer strip on the outside of the firewall when it was supposed to be on the inside between the firewall and this hinge.  I was able to fix it just fine.

Fuselage center section #80 - Forward upper fuselage part 2!

Continuing work on the top front firewall area.

First they have you rivet these hinge clips.  Only rivet the top hole in the nutplate. (Update:  This strip goes on the inside of the firewall, not on the outside!)

Then they have you rivet all these nutplates.

Then you match drill the hinges to the firewall strip.  The hinges must be spaced 1/16" from the strip.  Just clamp the poo out of it after aligning the mark that was placed on the hinge.

Then the rivet holes are countersunk for flush rivets.

So I screwed up and cut this longer hinge an inch short a couple days ago.  I must have been drunk!  So now I am waiting for some more hinge to be able to finish this part of the firewall.  I can keep going though!  I also realized it would be better to cut it so that the part remaining after the eyelet will be on the other end.  The KAI's don't provide any help here, they just leave it up to you to figure out which end to leave the tail on.

Riveted the short hinge section to the firewall.  Ordered another hinge.

Fuselage center section #24 - Seat rib area assembly

 More seat rib area assembly!

Got to the point of riveting and bolting this attach bracket to the rib and found out that I got out over my ski's a bit by installing this nutplate before I was told to.  No way to get this screw in with the nutplate installed so I had to drill it out.

Nutplate removed.

Screw installed.

Nutplate replaced.

Flap motor bracket installed.

Reinforcement brace installed.

Mixer assembly going in.

Crotch strap anchor points going in.

Both subassemblies done.

Missed prepping a few parts so I went ahead and got them ready to prime.  Had to cut two parts out of this thing.

Removing all the excess flashing.

Deburred the seat pans.

Dimpled as required the seat pans.
